The Creative Industries and the development of cultural entrepreneurship education – reality or myth?

Topic(s): creative industries and entrepreneurship, artists labour markets

Keywords:  Creative Industries - entrepreneurship education -education and training - cultural and creative sector

Summary:

This study looks at the development of appropriate approaches to entrepreneurship education for the creative industries. It confirms that there is an awareness of the need for and potential benefits of entrepreneurship education for the creative and cultural sectors. This is in keeping with findings from the UK and elsewhere and indeed reflects a sub set of entrepreneurship education activities across all disciplines, not just within the creative sector. Attempts are being made to provide modules that assist students to engage with the entrepreneurial agenda. However, provision is sketchy and there is no clear clarity about the extent to which this provision is appropriately contextualized.
