In the context of the recent recession in the UK, this survey tries to paint an accurate picture as to the impact that the downturn has had to date on arts organisations and of the financial landscape which they now face. It concludes by saying that the coming years will pose many challenges for the arts sector in Northern Ireland, forcing organisations to become even more resourceful in the way in which they develop and fund their work. Good marketing, efficient costs bases and collaborative ventures will become key elements of their strategy. Innovative approaches to working with private sector partners, along with a more business-like approach to running arts organisations will be essential requirements if arts organisations are to flourish in the future.
