Mapping the field of Arts and Economics
Topic(s): research on arts and cultural economics
Keywords: Cultural Economics - knowledge map - academic production
This paper offers an insight into the academic production within the domain of arts and economics using biblio-metric techniques. Co-authorship analysis provides insight into the geographic spread and cooperation between the contributing authors. Word frequency and co-word analysis is used to explore the frequency of and the relation between concepts frequently used in the field. The keywords are tokenized from the abstracts from all the articles published in the Journal of Cultural Economics over the period 1994-2010. Through co-word analysis, a matrix of co-occurrence is calculated, that way identifying the similarity between the papers. This allows clustering the documents into different thematic categories. The result consists of a graphical visualisation summarizing the field of cultural economics into a knowledge map encompassing its main thematic clusters.
