Felix Unger


Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Felix Unger is President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a high level network for distinguished individuals in the sciences and arts, which he founded together with Cardinal Franz König and Professor Nikolaus Lobkowicz in 1990.  He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Vienna. He worked in the areas of cardiac assistance and artificial hearts in Houston, Cleveland and Salt Lake City before becoming Assistant Professor at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where he built up the Coronary Artery Surgery Unit. In 1986 he implanted the first artificial heart in Europe. He has been chair of the University Clinic of Cardiac Surgery in Salzburg, Austria, since 1985, and has received numerous awards as well as 5 honorary doctoral degrees.
