10:30 – 13:00 Session I: Recommendations for Innovative Financing of Creative Industries and Cultural Urban Development

Presentations on financing interventions in two of the most important areas of the culture and development sector – creative industries and cultural urban development - will serve as the basis for a roundtable debate to determine some of the major challenges that might arise in applying innovative sources and delivery mechanisms of development finance to the arts and culture sectors. Recommendations will be developed on how new incentives and approaches to financing - including pooling private and public revenue streams to scale up activities - might be applied successfully for the benefit of development partners on the ground.

14:30 – 15:30 Session II: Exploring Donor Collaborations for Strengthening Development Policies in Arts and Culture

This session will look at how collaborations among development donors might help increase the effectiveness of activities aimed at strengthening a number of development policies and agendas. It will look in particular at the 2005 UNESCO Convention and at the role of culture in the post-2015 development agenda. Presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion among all participants.

An open roundtable discussion among all participants, this session will explore which forms of knowledge-building and sharing already exist and which still need to be created in order to optimize the effectiveness of arts and culture-related donor interventions on the African continent. Participants will use examples of their work to discuss types and methods of building and sharing knowledge.
